Winter storm hitting parts of New England

Warning in effect for elevations above 1,000 feet
BOSTON —

 A winter storm warning is issued for parts of Berkshire County and is in effect from Sunday morning until Monday night.

The National Weather Service said the warning was in effect for elevations above 1,000 feet.

Forecasters said heavy and blowing snow can be expected, and locations in the affected area could see anywhere from 5 to 10 inches of snow. Snow is expected to develop late Saturday night, and could become heavy at times                        
Temperatures will fall as the storm develops and draws down colder air from Canada.

The mountains of northern New England as the Adirondacks in New York could receive between 3-6 inches of snow at a time when many ski resorts hope to open in time for Thanksgiving.

Winds could gust to 30-50 mph behind the storm on Sunday as temperatures fall through the 40s and into the 30s.

By Thanksgiving, another storm should approach New England. Some rain and wet snow is possible around New England as early as Wednesday — a peak travel day ahead of Thanksgiving.
